What You Need To Know About Cécred, Béyonce's Haircare Brand

In May 2023, Beyoncé teased the release of a hair product drop via Instagram and detailed her experience with hair salons growing up. She concluded the post with an exciting statement that hinted at the upcoming launch of her haircare brand, Cécred. Aside from a tight-lipped follow-up post earlier this month, the details of the beauty project were kept under wraps leading up to the official drop on February 20. Now, her entire collection is finally available on Cécred's website.

Despite providing limited information, fans quickly connected the dots after her initial post last year and were keen to get their hands on whatever Beyoncé had in store. After all, members of the BeyHive remain loyal to all Beyoncé-approved products and beauty tips, and her new haircare brand proves no exception. With a fanbase as strong as Bey's, the music icon's latest undertaking is sure to succeed.

How Cécred came to be

Beyoncé's fans can undoubtedly agree that this period of exploration and self-discovery has led to exciting yet unexpected projects that swing between past and future, and fans are all too eager to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Her recent foray into unlikely genres, for instance, made history as she entered her country era and became the first Black woman to top the Billboard country music charts.

On the other hand, the birth of Cécred involved a return to the past and a reconnection to her roots. "I have many beautiful memories attached to my hair," the singer tells Essence. "The relationship we have with our hair is such a deeply personal journey. From spending my childhood in my mother's salon to my father applying oil on my scalp to treat my psoriasis — these moments have been sacred to me." Her statement is a nod to the brand's tagline, "Hair is sacred."

Queen Bey also revealed to Essence that the inspiration behind Cécred dates back to her teenage years when she and her entrepreneurial mother, Tina Knowles, planted the seeds of the haircare brand through a shared vision. Therefore, her goal in creating Cécred was to combine quality and intention. "It was important to decide where we invested in our formulations," she explains to Essence. "I knew what I wanted to do, with technology that works for all women and all textures, because I had not been able to find it.

According to Cécred's website, what makes the products unique is the brand's dedication to "prioritizing the needs of textured hair," which is accomplished through a patent-pending technology named Bioactive Keratin Ferment. Simply, the products are formulated with three core ingredients, one of which is a prebiotic derived from the fermentation of Lactobacillus bacteria. The other ingredients include honey and bioactive keratin. When combined, this innovative technology works to strengthen and protect damaged hair, regardless of hair type.

As of February 2024, Cécred is available exclusively via the website and ships both locally and internationally to select countries.
