Born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV in Saratoga, New York on July 3rd 1962, Cruise is one of the most highly-paid and popular actors of his generation. (Japan even declared October 6th annual Tom Cruise Day for the international star.) When he was young his family, which consisted of his mother and his three sisters, moved frequently, attending 15 different schools before enrolling in his New Jersey high school where he first tried acting. At age 18 he headed to New York to pursue his acting career and shortly thereafter appeared in Endless Love, The Outsiders, and Risky Business . 1986`s popular Top Gun solidified his box office appeal, which he followed up with memorable performances in such quintessential `80s films as Rain Man, Cocktail, and Born on the Fourth of the July. In the `90s he appeared and often, produced, one blockbuster after another including Mission: Impossible, The Firm, and Jerry McGuire for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He is currently married to Dawson`s Creek star Katie Holmes after marrying her in Rome in the summer of 2006. Both devoted Scientologists, the couple has one child, Suri, was born April 18, 2006. Cruise was previously married to Mimi Rodgers as well as Nicole Kidman with whom he adopted two children, Isabella and Connor who reside with Cruise and Holmes in Los Angeles.
