Few child actors tend to go onto have blockbuster careers, except for Tobey Maguire and (coincidentally enough) his childhood pal, Leonardo DiCaprio. Like his fellow California-native, Maguire (born June 27, 1975) started appearing in commercials and tv shows (including Roseanne and Walker, Texas Ranger) as a teenager. In 1997, Maguire scored his breakout role in Ang Lee`s haunting 1997 film, The Ice Storm. For the years that followed, Maguire made an impact on movie-goers with his performances in such indie hits as Pleasantville, Cinderhouse Rules, and Wonderboys. Maguire moved from the indie scene into blockbuster territory with his leading role in the Spider-Man movie franchise. However popular the Spider-Man films are, Seabiscuit may well be Maguire`s favorite: On the set of the film???for which he starred in and produced???he met his wife, jewelry designer and daughter of Universal Studio`s CEO, Jennifer Meyer. The couple now has a daughter, Ruby Sweetheart Maguire, who is named for the actor`s grandmother.
